Components

Upgrade components are the items that can make your weapons and armor better. You can locate them by destroying enemies, purchasing them from karma vendors, or finding them in the form of item-spheres. You can also salvage them from equipment containing the components or by using high-end salvage kits like Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. In contrast to other items upgrade components, upgrade components aren't destroyed when they are removed from an item.

They can be stacked to increase the level of an upgradeable item or they can be used to boost the amount of experience gained from upgrading an existing weapon or piece of equipment. They can also be forged to give additional bonuses. You can connect an upgrade template to an item by selecting it from the edition GUI. It will display an upgrade component list that the item can be upgraded to. Each component has a unique experience multiplier. This determines how much experience an item can gain when upgraded with that component. Organic components, for example, have an increased multiplier of experience than mechanical components. It is therefore best to upgrade using organic components until you reach the experience multiplier of the next rank of the weapon or gear, then move to mechanical upgrades.

Each item comes with a maximum upgrade number that it is possible to receive. The number of upgrades are determined by the rank that can be upgraded and the upgrade type of the upgradeable item.
