This makes the i3+ an excellent option for those who want a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of having to empty their dust bin manually when it is full.

Both robots excel at picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors and they are very good in moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean up efficiently. The i3+ doesn't have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or any other top rated robot vacuum-rated robots that we tested. It can get stuck on power cords or socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces, like hardwood and rug.

iRobot suggests cleaning up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums robot prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or clutter it might encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dustbin and filter clean so they don't become clogged with dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is depleted it will return to its docking station and automatically emptying its trash into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for about an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes around three hours to fully recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in iRobot's flagship line, and it has the most up-to-date features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. the most important feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can direct your robot using the app or via voice.

The i7+ is faster and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface, including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin which eliminates the main sources of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the best robot hoover to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions as well as move around the room and even vacuum a specific area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. We were able, once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and pick up large crumbs or fine dust. It comes with three suction settings to meet the task that is being completed. It can quickly switch between handheld and floor vacuum, and vice versa.

The model also comes with an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments and an clip for a wand. This is a big improvement over the older Dysons models, which require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's main drawback is its short running time. Its marketing claims that it has up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading, as CR's testing shows. This is an average and not a remarkable time to run the battery-powered cordless vacuum. This is still enough to clean most of an average-sized house however, it's not enough to clean every area (though a second run-through usually does the trick). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more mobile than previous Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeably superior for carpet floors with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums The 694 is an entry-level model that's an excellent option for those who don't want to invest too much on a robotic. It's capable of sucking up all types of debris and sizes during our testing, and it often goes over the same areas many times to get a really thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it to reach into corners and along the edges of walls, which is a nice touch.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and guide you through your home. However, it lacks the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, like our top picks, the i3+EVO and j7+ Series. It may get stuck on phone cords or furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects, as it has fewer parts that require regular maintenance, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and is better at maneuvering itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and can charge faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries strips that can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It is also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and performs better on floors with low pile and bare.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name that is seen on a variety of home electronics, so it comes as no surprise that they're one of the most reputable robotic vacuum and mop makers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is loaded with cutting-edge onboard intelligence tech for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a wide range of customization options for your robotic cleaner. These include mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to use and understand similar to other Samsung devices.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it did not do particularly well in avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks which was a disappointment. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested and this could be a deterrent for some buyers.

The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that can be accessed through the app, and you can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station.
